Design Software...any opinions?

Hello folks -

Was surfing around last night for a variety of Boat/hull design software programs and throughout the various links, discovered there are a few out there...at least that consistantly showed up throughout the various links. Came across some free one's that actually looked pretty good and some that were in the $2000 range (obviously wayyyyyyy out of my $ range.)

Unfortunately all of the freebees are pre MS XP and none of them work on my computer without adding some files to my "systems" folder. I have an older computer that still works fine tucked away in the closet with W98 which should be fine, but...

has anyone had any experience with any of the design programs out there? I'm not looking for anything too elaborate. I actually want to play around with some of the old CC runabout designs.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Well, Sorry! I forgot to do a search prior to this post. I just did and found quite a few Q's on this subject so don't worry about responding to this. If you want, great but perhaps I can find my answer in the search engine. Again, I apologize for not doing my homework first! :rolleyes:

But anyways with just 8 posts I reckon its a grand ol gidday to yer mate an welcome... yeah yeah probably been said before but hey!! nothin like makin a poster welcome I say... some of the designers here will no doubt toss their twobobs worth into the ring if yer leave yer question without the "ooh geez sorry bout that shoulda checked I guess" stuff they LOVE answerin questions that relate to whats their passion in life!! So ask away an ta hell with the scurrilous dawgs tha would say nay!!

I have spent a little time playing with the hulls program from Carlson design.Its free and if you are happy to limit your options to ply panels,you can gain experience before moving on to what your acquired experience tells you is better.
