In the early 1960's I learnt to sail in an original 1903, 16 ft Port Isaac Lugger called " Little Gwen " she was clinker built with a drop keel and had a Lug and Mizzen rig. Her owner Dr Leslie Hale kept her at Mylor near Falmouth in Cornwall UK. After Dr Hale's death I lost touch with the boat, but in about 1975 , I saw " Little Gwen " in the boat park near Falmouth Docks, in a very sorry state minus her original Lug rig. Does anyone know if this little Lugger still exists in the Falmouth area, even if in a very bad state , her lines could be taken off. There is now much interest in original working craft, for example the building of new replicas. Another boat I would like to trace is a larger Port Isaac Lugger of 1896 originally called " Immanual " she was 22ft 6 inches long and I saw her at Padstow Cornwall in the 1970's under the name of "Daymer Bay" she was sold from Padstow in 1976. The Luggers of Port Isaac in North Cornwall have several design features that are different to other Cornish working craft in the days of sail and so far none of the major works about these craft mention Port Isaac Luggers.

Have you tried asking these people? http://www.nmmc.co.uk/index.php?page=Research&id=194
J P Oke may have measured boats from these two classes.
