Just five days, on a river I've enjoyed before. I just learned that one of the guys is bringing a $1,500 satellite phone...and he's planning to send Twitter feeds from the river. It's some kind of business thing...I didn't get the details. How long before we can surf the net in the bush? Strange days.

Have a great time Bruce. I guess the satellite phone is a good safety feature but I bet Daniel Boon didn't use one.

He's not bringing it for safety. It's got something to do with his company. He's a good guy, and maybe he's up to something interesting...I dunno.

It would be irresponsible not to float test the sat phone at the earliest opportunity.

A couple weeks ago, James McMullen and I were at his kitchen table. He had an ipad on the table showing a chart, and we each had our iphones out checking our respective weather, tide and current apps. His wife thoroughly enjoyed the irony of us and our little row/sail boats against the technology of it all.

Ditto what JD said. There's nothing quite like a few days on a river in a canoe to clear the cobwebs. Unless, of course, you've got banjos playing a certain tune in the background. Or...I don't know where you are, but the black flies are about to make their presence known here. All part of the fun, eh?

Have fun.

Safe paddling! I spent a few days doing the Bowron Lakes a few years ago, and it was one of the best times of my life. Canoeing is just one of those special things, eh?

I've got a buddy who I'll be with this weekend, who loves his devices.
He sees it as an expansion of his world.
I see it as contraction.

Will do. Seems a bit extravagant to summon an airlift for a few bags of sweet treats, but hey...it's me.

The Noire. It flows into the Upper Ottawa, between the Coulonge & the Dumoine.

Cool. I don't know that river at all.

Packing a travelling guitar, or perhaps one of your Halloween ukes?
