Hello all, does anyone know where I can go on the web to see actual photographs of Karl Stambaugh's plywood sloop "MIST"? I'd like to see it from other than a study plans perspective. I'm building Steve Redmonds Whisp now, and am enjoying myself so much, I'm already thinking of the second boat. Nick

This was discussed in a recent thread and it seems that a Mist has not been built as yet. The design has created a lot of interest but no one with the will to build....how about you being the first??? ;)

I also bought the MIST plans, I have the tools, the space on my backyard, the epoxy, and some wood. I need the inspiration (or security) that this design works. I would not like to be the first one, and discover problems in the boat performance. So I am waiting for some pictures to appear, or favorable (encouragement) comments from the designer in order to start the project.

Eddie and Nick, I would feel confident about the Mist design . It would not be featured by Woodenboat Magazine in '40 Wooden Boats' if it was a dodgy design.
There appears to have been a care in selection of the designs that appear in the 30, 40 or 50 wooden boat book series - well thought out boats chosen for amateur builders, from the skilled carpenter to the beginner. I believe these designs were selected to give the builder a good start - to steer the amateur builder away from other designs which are just not thought out properly (badly and poorly designed).
I believe the sloop Mist is well designed.
Hell, you could choose a much worse 20 footer to build than Mist.
Cheers
Mark
