I found Billy Atkin's "Fore and Aft" sitting forlornly in front of some oil tanks in Albany, New York. Strange to actually encounter a boat that had such a special place in my imagination when I was young.
Looking at her from either end, it's hard to see what holds her up in the water. I hope someone is planning to restore her.

Nice looking boat, did there seem to be signs of work Roger?
Isn't that an overlarge propellor aperture?

The stern shows signs of having been reworked. There is a false stern post on the transom. I think probably the plank ends rotted and the tilted the transom up slightly to move it to where they could put new fastenings in sound wood.
It's hard to say what was going on with the boat. From it's location in the yard, it might be headed for the chainsaw. It was at Scarano Boatworks right by the gate. If anyone in the area is down that way I'd like to know if they learn anything.

"Fore and Aft"...there is another one in Salem Massachusetts...in good shape...owned by the chief rigger of Old Ironsides.
