Hi,
I'm writing the blog following the restoration of the 1885 schooner yacht CORONET in Newport RI. I'm looking for some illustrative drawings that show the various parts of a large boat like this that can be used to put some of the boat's parts in context. It's hard to show a stem gripe and only use words to explain how it fits into the overall structure of the boat.

I've spent a fair amount of time on google images with only limited success. Even though this is not a commercial site, I don't want to pirate someone else's work, so in a perfect world I'd find some old drawings that are out there with a key to reference back to (i.e., part A is a keelson, part B is the hog, and so on).

Any leads would be most appreciated.

We're at coronet1885.com

Hire an artist or photographer and make that person a respected part of the crew. It's part of the cost of the job, if you want to record it correctly.

Try to find the book:

The American Built Clipper Ship: 1850-1856 - Characteristics, construction, details by William Crothers; International Marine 1997, 2000

That book has more than you would ever want to know about the construction of wooden ships.

Captain H Paasch Illustrated Marine Encyclopedia is pretty good too.

How To Build A Wooden Boat by Bud McIntosh has a wealth of great illustrations of large boat construction done by Sam Manning.

+1
Coronet is special and deserves documentation of her construction, not a random plank-on-frame built within the same century.

I agree with Ian and Jim. IYRS is so horrendously expensive and misguided, they can surely afford it.

It might cost the price of a couple of IYRS cocktail parties.
