Meer the design is nice fer a Ketch ( ya know how I feel AND now I even have one  ;) ) But damn who did the drawing and rendering eeek gaaaahds that is awful. You are going to need better bait fer Venchka ;)

Be nice. Doing that kinda thing ain't easy. I know. I'm trying. Boats in software is hard.

One may argue, but I'd call it a yawl - a supurb rig for a shoal water boat that might have to back herself out of tight corners.

Got that already. And a nice canoe paddle that backs up just fine. Did I mention paid for?

Ok, ok - just checking smile.gif

But just for the record, anything other than a 2D rendering would be nice...

Without the cabin - is this realistic enough for you? tongue.gif

For the record...

I do wish Iain offered something similar for the Caledonia yawl. I wish I had thought to take a chance and have John Anderson add the deck and cabin. Too late now. Perhaps someone will do it down the road.

What I'm working on in 3-D is creating each and every part for another boat. I have the plans. AutoCRAP doesn't do surfaces well. Or Wayne doesn't know how to do surfaces well. Either way, I think I'll move on to the timber bits and come back to the hull skin later. I could try creating the hull skin in Inventor. I hate Inventor right now.

Joe, does the software you are using do fly-bys and fly arounds? I've done that with an AutoCAD 3-D model. Way cool!

Merrkat drool, NOW you are using good bait :D

Wayne the 2D program I used for the above drawing was a Simple Adobe Illustrator with some photoshop plug ins. I generally use that any time I want to just sketch out a quick idea and have it look nice. If I want to do iso or obli CAD drawings with flybys CAD movies and all that fun stuff I use Ashlar Vellum beautiful program for rendering in all perspectives. http://www.ashlar.com/

Nice looking KETCH! smile.gif

Am I missing something? That tiller with the mizzen right forward looks clumbsy.

I think that rendering of the ketch is perfectly suited to the purpose. Its not an art competition. I just want to see what the boat looks like and that rendering achieves that effectively.Lovely looking boat that it is.

Brett Bakewell-White is a nice guy. I was speaking to him a few weeks ago. He spent a lot of his early time with Laurie Davidson.. probably my favourite 'modern' designer. There's always a familial look about his boats. Enough that I regularly used to confuse his earlier boats for Davidsons.

Nice looking KETCH!

Am I missing something? That tiller with the mizzen right forward looks clumbsy. If you look in the photo, there is a tiller extension to make it easier to steer with the mizzen mast in the way. Personally, I'd make a rudder post in front of the mizzen.

Don,

I saw the extension. It still looks bloody awkward. Put the helm down and then wrassle around the mizzen to keep a hand on. I'm sure you'd get used to it, and doubtless the designer thought about it long and hard, but still, awkward. It seems glaring to me, but maybe it would work fine. I don't like it. Too much going on right at the head of the tiller, which should be clear.

An argument for an inboard rudder, but given the sail plan it would have to be too far forward to eliminate this problem. An argument for a yawl rig AND an inboard rudder. smile.gif
