I work amongst a sea of plastic, steel and aluminium boats, generally. I know these photos aren't up to the standard of some of the marina and yard photos posted here, but whenever I see something with a bit of wood rock up into the yad I tend to get a little bit more interested in where I am.

Each morning and a few times throughout the day I do a walk of the yard to see who is about that we may be able to coax some work from and although I have a work camera I don't bother bringing it home to download non work photos, so the last couple of days I've taken my own to work.

Here's what was amongst the plastic, ally and steel today:

Here's a part of the yard, I was trying to get a general shot of what it looks like. It's hard to see here but there are quite a few more vessels left and right and behind the sheds than what I've fitted in the shot:

Dolphin about to go back in the drink:

I confess that I have forgotten what this is:

this appealed purely for being so different to everything around it:

A very nicely restored timber Fleming:

What can you tell us about the Fleming Greg ?.

Not a heck of a lot really Rob, but I immediately thought of you when I first saw her, though she's more of a motor cruiser than a motor sailor. They are gorgeous boats and I did immediately go and have a look for any for sale for you but figured they may be a bit on the steep side price wise. Here's one as an idea: http://yachthub.com/index.html?page=list/ed.html?de=39740 (http://yachthub.com/index.html?page=list/ed.html?de=39740)

Actually, I bailed up a couple of guys who were working on her, she's just in for an antifoul touch up and a few other bits and pieces while she's here - including a new windscreen. One of the guys was actually the previous owner to the current one, he was the guy who did her up to what she is now. He's a marine engineer but has quite a passion for the Flemmings and their sea keeping qualities.

He was quite disappointed that the new owner immediately fitted those stabilisers before he'd even ever been out on her. Said that they were completely superfluous as she's a very stable and comfortable sea boat, seems the new owner may have had more money than sense at the time (my words not his).

Edited to add - actully Rob, here she is for sale herself:

Rob, here's one at a better price:

Peter, I don't know, she's been out front of the marina and yard for the last few days. I've been keeping a bit of an eye out for the owner to ask, I've seen someone on board a few days ago but not going back and forward.

Here's one that I really like the shape of but she's purely a motor cruiser so I ignored her when I first looked, bust she's a nice price - ad huon pine http://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/power-boats.php?de=62712

I think your assessment of the Fleming is right Greg , a motor cruiser carrying a bit of sail.
Pretty fancy , looks like something for the white shoe brigade , sipping their gins .
Dunno if they would appreciate me flipping a few 'couta in their , shedding their scales as they do.
And yes , a bit of sail does a great job of steadying a boat .

The yard was on the Brisbane river, as far as I'm aware. What's your mates name?

The place I'm thinking of was on Norman Creek ,East Brisbane .The mate's name is Keith Davis .... he owns Pelican Slipway at Redland Bay these days .
