Just got off the phone with sis and brother...older sis has lotsa trees down, boat dock is gone and some of the redwood siding off her house, a bunch of hail damage.....(Shawnee, Okla......) Younger since lost 4 out buildings, no animals (horses) injured, same area,...tore carport from house, damaged vehicles, lifted propane tank and toppled it......
Lowell, a neighbor, had similar house damage, lost boat dock and his new boat...
I-40 is closed near Choctaw road with multiple vehicles tossed off the road and overturned and neck injuries for drivers....
Brother had severe hail damage to house and brand new roof.....all tornado damage...storm headed towards east coast.

Yup...they have "fraidy holes" built with access from the front porch of the house, with exits in another direction in case a house is blown down on the door.

This was a bad one here. Several deaths confirmed, but we'll know more tomorrow. Many homes lost. The marina at Lake Thunderbird was hit and the sailboats were just wadded up like foil.

One of the guys I work with is out that way with one of the tornado-chasing trucks the company has built. Supposedly he got good data on that last storm. Sadly, we don't seem to have the early detection part down to the point where nobody gets hurt.

I was up waiting for it to hit somewhere near here! Looking at the radar it looked bad with a huge red ball heading this way and we didn't get a drop of rain - weird???

              Sorry for you sisters losses.

Maybe a 1/4 inch of rain in west Tulsa, no wind to speak of. Sorry for all the loss.

                    Re: Tornados

I witness a poignant moment yesterday. In the hours after the big twister hit Norman, one of the local TV copters was in the air filming one destroyed neighborhood after another. They just happened to zoom in on a family carefully sorting through their destroyed home. I mean, it was completely leveled just an hour before.

The family had the kids standing in the driveway, probably so they wouldn't get hurt in the rubble, while Mom and Dad looked around for anything that they could immediately save. The TV cameraman caught the Dad as he found a matching pair of shoes. He held them up and the whole family clapped and cheered. How's that for the human spirit?

This is what it looks like when a tornado scores a direct hit on a marina. This is what hit Lake Thunderbird (near Norman, OK) earlier this week:
