Are Iain Oughtreds' plans available from sources in the USA? (besides what WB has?) I found this UK site, but I don't know how much trouble it is to mailorder from the UK. http://www.classicmarine.co.uk/

From the site above it looks like Oughtred has changed the 'Whilly Boat' somewhat to make it more suited for sailing. From the specs it looks like the plans available from WB are the older version. Thanks.

Thanks.Correct on all counts. WB sells the original plans. The latest and greatest plans are available from Classic Marine or Iain directly. Take your pick.

A copy of Iain's latest catalog might answer more questions. WB sells it. A letter to Iain will answer still more questions.

Iain's plans are much cheaper from WoodenBoat, I bought my Acorn Skiff plans from them, and even with shipping and Duty I still saved over 30% on the UK price!

Thanks to all for the Oughtred info.

While I'm at it: anybody have any other suggestions for similar boats that row well, sail well (but stable) lightweight, seaworthy, probably lapstrake plywood. Yeah, I want it all! Thanks again.

(Yep, Texas needs more Oughtred boats... probably a few other things as well... smile.gif )

Iain's plans are much cheaper from WoodenBoat Except that they don't have the latest plans from Mr. O. For example the "Whilly boat" has been redesigned as the "Whilly Tern" and is now stretched to 15'+.

Send a nice crisp $20 US bill to the address above to get his nice new catalogue of plans. Some good photos in it.
