I hope you could be of help. I would like to build a small norse sailing and rowing clinker ship (ca. 5,5-6 m long) in solid wood and in a traditional way. I research some information about the Nordfjord or sogn faering and the geibåt. Does anybody have some information about the different timber dimensions and have some plans and cross sections or know where I could find these informations? I try to buy the book Vestlandbatar but unsuccessfully :(.
Many thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Forum! If you go to the USER CP link in the upper left of this page, you can edit your location info -- then we'll know where in the world you'll be building, and can direct you to local resources.
You can also search the Forum for "faering" and similar terms, as this topic comes up regularly.
I find the internal Wooden Boat Forum search engine to be pretty limited, as it doesn't allow Boolean searches (tow +dinghy +bridle).
Try Google's Advanced Search ( http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en ) . Just copy and paste the Forum's URL ( http://www.woodenboat.com/forum/ ) into the last field named "Search within a site or domain:", then put in search strings like "tow dinghy bridle" or whatever.

Iain Oughtred has a design for a traditionally built faering, the Woodfish, as well as his glued lap plywood designs Elf and Elfyn.
Here is a link to an article about the Woodfish: http://www.viking-boats.com/Pdf/Oughtreds.pdf
I built his Elf with my son a few years ago:

Hi,
Sorry for the delay in responding your emails. Thanks for your answers!!! After many researches in Norway, we have found the drawings of a Nordfjord faering (made by Arne Emil Christensen) in the Norwegian maritime museum. They are copying it and will send it to us this week (I hope). Bjørn, we will be happy to have some discussion about the Nordfjord boat and the information you have. What dimension will have your faering (length, width and depth) ? Is it only a rowing or also a sailing boat ? Where do you find your data to build your faering? We plan to beginn the building in the fall and winter (depending of the wood supplying).
