Thanks for putting that link up. I love the Tally Ho design. See the post earlier about the 52' Atkins cutter for sale in the Seattle area by John Atkins? It is my opinion that he stretched Tally Ho for this design.

Ah, time for some clarification. smile.gif The proper name for that boat is TAllY HO! with the exclamation mark. Back in those days the Customs folks did not allow more than 1 boat of a particular name in the same area. There was a TALLY HO so Atkin had to add the exclamation mark. ;) Now for the rest of the story, the boat TALLY HO was my great-grandfathers boat, the boat I am duplicating. smile.gif
Tha original Atkin boat TALLY HO! was up for sale about 5 years ago, there was an add in our sponsors mag. The boat was found in RI about 15 years ago in bad shape was was 'restored' with the addition of f@#$$#@$s on the hull, and has since survived 2 hurricanes.

ChuckChuck:
After reading the thread on the 52' cutter, I have gone through all of the designs for cutters on the Atkins web page. The 52' design has two characterisitcs that I have looked for:
1) a curved stem profile, with an overhang of about 1/12th of the waterline length; and
2) a transom stern.
None of the cutter designs on the site have both characteristics. The designs with transom stern have nearly plumb bows, having much less overhang than appears to be the case with the 52 footer. The designs with curved stems are double enders.
However, in Atkins book "Of Yachts and Men" there is a design for a cutter, that is not on the website, called ALGOL, with LOD of 34'6", with the curved stem profile and transom stern. It looks to me like ALGOL is the more likely precursor of the 52 foot design.

The Tally-Ho is a great looking design. There is aslo an Atkin design, Tally-HO Major which is a larger version of this original design.
I own a Cape George 36 which was derived from the Tally-Ho Major. The lines remain faithful to the original with slight modification for fiberglass construction. The decks, trunk cabin etc. are all traditional wood construction.
