Well we just spent 5 days at Green lake (70 Mile BC) sailing everyday in blustery conditions, very educational.
Finaly deliberatly capsized Carina in nice warm water (by Canadian standards) For any Shearwater builders out there... "you must add floatation". The reason this boat is called a shearwater is because her shear is totaly under water when capsized; in fact so is her bow. She's easy to right but can't be bailed. So we know this winter's project. Also add double blocks to her main sheet so you can hang on when going for a realy wild ride.

Does she come out of the water (into a bailable state) with the "push from the end" system of pumping the water over the ends? Or if you push down on the bow, lifting the stern, and then pushing her into the air (I suspect that she's too heavy for that)?

Thanks, Gert! That kind of information is what keeps me coming back to the Forum. Most helpful!

Gert,

We may be missing the forest for the trees here. Do you have a plug for the centerboard case? Stopping up that hole in the hull might make bailing/pumping out feasible.

The only hole in the CB case is the 3/8 d one where the CB halyard comes out of the cap, it's not an issue.

No worries. Just wondering.
