Someone talk to me about accommodations in/around St. Michaels? Looking for relatively cheep (I know... An oxymoron...) room for weekend June 18-20.
Offline (http://www.frayedknotarts.com/email.html) is fine!

There is a Best Western just outside of town. That may be your best bet. There are a few Bed and Breakfastes in town but they are expensive. Check out this link: http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=hp&q=st+michaels+md+hotels&aq=1&aqi=g10&aql=&oq=st+michaels&gs_rfai=&fp=9118ce00d2daff08

Easton is about 12 miles and 20 minutes driving from St Michaels. Easton has several motels/hotels and a couple of B&B's.

Take David's recommendations about Easton if it fits your schedule. That's where we stay for the Small Boat Festival in October. Also you have the opportunity to see some bay sights as you drive to St. Mike's . The Day's Inn is 1960's but is clean and has very reasonable rates and Continental Breakfast. ( at least it did in Oct). The HI Express is only a few years old and it also has the free breakfast. Would recommend either. Wifey prefers the newer one.
Here's something different only a few miles down the road from St. Mikes. http://www.bednboat.com/site.php?page=cottages
Try this-hope it works

Darn it didn't stick. Well, try the old paste and print maybe that'l work.

Forget St. Michaels ... even the Best Western is $160 a night on a June weekend, assuming they have a room. And the Harris Cove Bed and Boat is cute, but it's even more expensive. I'd stay in Easton.

Easton sounds the thing for me... did find a nice little place right in St. Michaels, but $512/nite is just a BIT pricey for me.
Harris Cove IS cute, tho...
Now, for a good diner in Easton, any recommendations? My "gourmet palate" is nonexistent, I fear.

I have been to St. Michaels twice. The first time I stayed in Delaware and drove up very early (I think I was there when they unlocked the doors) and the second time was last year and I drove down from Annapolis. It's a lovely small town sort of like Fairhope, Alabama, about eight miles from me.
The coolest part about the museum for me was the waterfowl exhibits, and I do not hunt. Interesting stuff about how they used to hunt duck for the fancy restaurants in Baltimore and New York by laying flat in these steel boxes laying in the mid and shooting these huge shotgun things. Some good stuff about how the flyways have changed over the years, as well.
iirc they have a Hampton One Design, Comet #1, and some other cool small boats. It's a nice little museum.

We stayed in St Michaels last december, the christmas lights added to the magic of the place.
Ate at a neat pizza and wine bar, something like Amies or a similar name.
Food was good, prices were reasonable, vibe was great.
Have to say, even though I come from Sydney Oz, the eastern shore was a great place to visit.

When we stayed in Easton we ate the Continental breakfast and fast food, like McD's and Wendy's. For fancy we travelled to Tilghman Island. Can't think of the name but there is a great seafood place just over the bridge on the right. Seafood treats my stomach so-so but I came away from there stuffed and loved it. And the menu states right up front the Chef is sometimes cranky so don't push the 'special order' stuff.
Also if you have the time try Old Salty's in Fishing Creek, on the Honga River. About 25 miles SSW of Cambridge. The senic drive across the Hooper Islands is worth the trip alone. Sometimes you have only 50 to 100 feet of land on both sides, you are surrounded by water. And a high tide brings it right up to the road gutters. Wifey didn't like that.
Here's a list of Easton dining places. http://www.eastonmd.org/ebmasite/dining.htm
Have fun.

While you are visiting St. Michaels, you might find time to see Oxford. It is a very pretty town, less commercial than St. Michaels. The Cutts and Case shop is terrific, but it is probably not open on weekends. Still, the yard has a nice collection of wooden boats. The two areas connect with a small ferry, and then access easily to Easton. An inexpensive way to see both areas is to park your car on the St. Michaels side of the ferry site and then take the ferry on foot to see Oxford, which is an attractive walk.
If you like to ride bicycles, it is a great area to do that. People spend $300 a day to be part of a package for bike riding that includes both Oxford and St. Michaels.
One further possibility to really wear you out is, if you are traveling on the Eastern Shore to St. Michaels, you could easily include Chestertown, another pre-Revolutionary town. George Washington really did stop there when traveling to and from Philadelphia on several occasions.

The Inn at Perry Cabin deserves consideration.

The weekend you mentioned is the date of the Classic Wooden Boat Festival at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. It is quite a Big Deal, and I imagine that is why you selected that date.

Thanks, Steven,
I feel a little embarrassed, treating Vince like a first-time tourist to our lovely Eastern Shore. But my intentions were kind and friendly.

Well, Frank, I actually AM a "1st timer' to St. Michaels, so no harm done!
I got a room at the Econo LoDge (Better knowN, apparently, as "Chez 'Em and Stomp 'Em 'Afore They Bites Ye") and am quite pleased by the helpful (at least on the phone) staff.
I'm doing six shows this year and by FAR this is the most expensive motel of the bunch!
I'll get there Thursday and set up for the three day show, then leave on Monday... well over $450 for the motel alone.
