The Atom gives a whole new meaning to the word fast.
I think I want one....though I think my lifespan would be shorten as a result:D

I've seen an Atom about town........very cool.
These are being assembled locally.......it's the new lotto car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murtaya).
Sort of like a WRX (http://www.murtaya.co.nz/), but they've taken off all of the ugly bits.
;):)

I wonder why there isn't some kind of minimal wind deflector, although it does give one an excuse to dress like Biggles, which is a bonus.

:D
It comes with a plastic body, fenders, and windshield that 'snaps' on and off.

Oh yeah base price is $49,900.00. Minimalism is such a deal.

They aren't road legal in Oz.... although I think they are still working on it. Someone near here has one... I've seen it on a trailer. Lots of fun as a track car.... but there are faster ones.

Ahh - the Radical SR3

http://www.supercars.net/cars/3287.html

With only about 360 HP, the Radical is not about raw power. Its strengths instead are a race-style chassis, complete with real downforce-generating spoilers. Or course, since the car only weighs about 1430 lbs, the Radical has an incredible power-to-weight ratio. A slightly less powerful 320 HP Radical SR3 Turbo has even run a 7:19 lap. Though we doubt you'll find one being valet-parked at the country club, the Radical is technically streetable. As such, it is the fastest road-going car around the Nordschleife.

Its 41k pounds. That 29k pounds price for the Atom is a bit old now.... and possibly isn't including the brake kit Jezza mentioned

I'd still like one:D

Oh yeah

I wonder if you have to be an English midget to fit in one? I'd almost made up my mind to buy an RX8 a few years back, went to the dealer and found that I didn't have a single centimetre of spare space. I wanted a road car, not a straightjacket.

I'd kinda like a KTM myself.

Hmmm.....some sort of Nissan GT-Thingy is only just slightly slower around the track than an Atom.
Not that I watch Top Gear repeats.......

The big bloke on Top gear must be close to your size Ian ,he fitted the Ariel OK .

Yeah - the Nissan GT-R is very quick. I believe Porsche weren't able to replicate Nissan's time around the Nurburgring with the GT-R they bought for evaluation purposes - nowhere close to it unless they used race tyres, not street tyres. I believe Nissan offered to teach the Porsche drivers how to drive :D

I've been around Winton Raceway in very close company with a Nissan GT-R. He blew away my 20 year old BMW M5 on the straight - but I was outbraking it and stuck on its tail all around the back of the track. I have no doubt that it was a case of a driver either unfamiliar with the car, or more likely - a dud - both wrt the braking and on the corners.

I'd like to find out..... whether I fit the Atom

Of course, both the Corvette Z06 and the Corvette ZR1 posted faster laps than the Porsches and the GT-R. Only six 'production' cars are faster than the Corvettes at Nurburgring, and of those, only three are street legal.

The New York Times had a piece about this car on Sunday. You can find it on line.

Yeah... but who'd want one? Crappy things, bits fall off, etc.

I had a few of the top spec local GM products a while back. Sports suspension / brakes etc. They just didn't last.

Yeah... but who'd want one? As appealing as the 650 HP ZR1 is, my next Plastic Fantastic will be of this persuasion. :)

yep, thats the one. I don't get all the split window mania though... I'd be just as happy with the single rear glass.

or how about...

One of our neighbors has one of these...

That car pictured above with big block, side pipes, louvers, two piece hood and removable hard top sold for $4750.0 in 1969.
