Are any of you familiar with the Mon Lei?
The original Mon Lei was built in the 19th century and was once owned by Robert Ripley (Believe it or Not).
Recently I saw this boat in Norwalk CT and do not know if it is a replica or the real thing. Any insight would be appreciated.

No, sorry. Saw a black square rigger motoring east in the Sound on thursday, three masts, didn't recognize her. And there was a black schooner anchored in Oyster Bay this weekend. Any ideas?

She was in New York Harbor last week, and is due in Greenport soon.
Here she is near the Brooklyn Bridge:

Here's an older photo showing a Junk that's labelled as Ripley's boat. Sure looks like the same one.

yes, I am pretty sure it is the same one, original 18x0's. It has been coming to or staying in Norwalk for 8+ years now. Many carpenters and a few butchers have worked on her over this time. She is quite rotten in many places but the owners keep replacing bits and pieces here and there. Probably the whole interior needs to be removed and the hull restored properly, but that has not been undertaken, so she gets patched a bit here and there every year.

I saw her again, westbound yesterday afternoon, while I sailed south. I didn't get a look at her transom, but she looked good motoring into the late day sun.

There is a possibility that the owner has been telling some tall tales. She may actually have been built in the 1920-30's.
