If a person doesn't have a pretty good handle on how to do that sort of thing by age 11, they probably have started far too late. Hardly anything more indestructable than a 10-year-old kid.

one crash on a friends banana seat bike was enough, Schwinn 5spd after that, dignified upright riding.

I must be all grown up, the smallest tire I have is a 25mm and all the rest are 32 or up!
