Friends of the Petaluma River are hosting two days of events centered on their River Heritage Center.

On Saturday they have Tom Sawyer Days, and it may be possible to camp out near the center with or without boats.

Sunday's row is with the TSCA. Launching early (before 9am), shuttle trailers to the Lakeville Marina, another trip upstream to visit to the center, then the loooong row down to the very funky Lakeville Marina and dinner at Papa's Taverna.

Weather is looking grim, particularly the windy bits.

I might hit the Tom Sawyer stuff on Sat, but I'll guess that the combo of predicted high winds and rain on Sunday will not be much fun for what is usually an upwind row.

Update via email from the organizer:

"Hi All;

Sunday's weather forecast looks pretty "crummy" (as Mike H points out in a below). I offer a couple alternatives for this week end's Petaluma event; Join us today (Sat.; by boat if possible) to enjoy our Tom Sawyer Day, and/or join us Sunday, by land if necessary, to enjoy our pancake breakfast (which will happen in the barn regardless) and the company of your fellow mariners. On both days we will have the stage set up to make music in the barn. Singing Sea Chanteys would be a wonderful way to spend Sunday morning; especially if the weather shuts down the rowing; so bring along your musical instruments. The barn has wonderful acoustics. If the weather is not too bad Sunday morning folks could just row from the Marina to the River Heritage Center and back to the marina. I'll be at the Petaluma launch ramp Sun 8:30 to 9:30 to help make the call.

Attached is flyer for Tom Sawyer Day (with a map to the Heritage Center).

No disrespect Thorne, but I thought Tom Sawer lived on the 'Sippi.

Nah, its a little-known fact that Twain lived in California during the period when he was inspired to write Tom Sawyer, and the Petaluma River played a major part in that inspiration, reminding Twain of his times on ole Miss.

After all, his first big story was "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County", written in San Francisco after his fail career as a miner in Nevada and the Sierras.
