Ive been able to souce two types of oakum. The first is from Davey & Co out of England but its a very very dry and pale looking oakum. Not heavily impregnated with Stockholm tar at all. It comes in the traditional small bale size and coarseness.

The second is from an unknown source but its braided into a 3 strand rope and then coiled very tightly (as you would rope) and sold in a plastic drum. It is however reasonably well impregnated with the Stockholm tar and consequently is very dark and greasy to handle.

However Im after the traditional dutch oakum. You used to be able to get it in great big bales and it was very coarse (often full of bits of twigs) and very well satuatrated with the tar. Does anyone know of a supplier?
