View Full Version : Launching 18 hours worth of canoe plus some... (pics)

I had some time off before starting my residency and I wanted to build another boat. Around the same time (I think it was my graduation night in fact...) a couple friends started to act interested in trying their hands at boatbuilding so I suggested that I would help them out a little and we could build 6 hour canoes for a relatively easy introduction. They got onboard and we set off.

Norm and Shane (Dingo) both helped a lot in getting me started with the plans and ideas before my WB #125 back issue arrived, much thanks to them. The canoes actually took about 4 weeks of 2-3 evenings a week to complete to this point, and a little (ok, a lot) more than 6 hours each. I think everyone enjoyed the process and they turned out great. Here are a couple pics and a link to my imagestation album.

I also launched the little skiff I built my little boy right around the time he was born. He seemed to enjoy it.

It was a great time and a fantastic father's day.

Here's a link to the imagestation album if you want to check out more pics:

Nice craft, JJ. Hope you find time to do some paddling during your residency.

Nice story. It's fun to have some fellow builders for a project like that. I think the 6-hours applies to yourself and a dozen elves. Your boy seems to be saying, "Hey, Dad, where are the oars?"

I really need to revisit the instant-gratification style of weekend boatbuilding. I'm coming upon a year on my boat now, and I'm jealous seeing you with your boats all done and in the water! :D
