I've enjoyed the photo journals of other builds on the forum, and thought I'd post mine as well. This build is based on the Glen-L Fancy Free design. The hull is faithful to the design, but I've modified a few things from there.http://www.facebook.com/#%21/photo.php?pid=30558269&id=1196563009http://www.facebook.com/#%21/photo.php?pid=30558257&id=1196563009http://www.facebook.com/#%21/photo.php?pid=30558261&id=1196563009http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30558265&id=1196563009http://www.facebook.com/album.php?id=1196563009&aid=2029610&s=20&hash=1aee12ce74827e88d26610c7da1bdc97#%21/photo.php?pid=30634009&id=1196563009http://www.facebook.com/album.php?id=1196563009&aid=2029610&s=20&hash=1aee12ce74827e88d26610c7da1bdc97#%21/photo.php?pid=30634010&id=1196563009

Beautiful job! How long has it taken you? I used a mast tabernacle on a boat of mine and it worked out great. Makes stepping the mast a one man operation.

Nice work! Is the tabernacle called for in the design?
notorioustinman

I started building on 12 FEB 09.
The tabernacle is my own design, extending compression to the keel. The original design called for a permanently stayed, roof stepped, aluminum stick.

Very beautiful boat wow. Great workmanship too.
When you say on one photo, "decks sealed" what is it that you are putting on the wood?

I payed the deck seams with graphite and epoxy, then flow-coated the decks with straight epoxy to seal the wood. After a light sanding for tooth, I will lay up seven coats of varnish, wet sanding between coats.

Probably stating the obvious, (but just in case you've been somewhat blinded by the beauty of the finished decks), I assume that you will include some non skid of some sort on your varnished decks? They will be treacherous otherwise.

I wanted portlights like these, but did not like the price for having them cast.
So I decided to build my own.

Coated with epoxy and bronze powder, and on the boat. They cost about seven
bucks each to build. :)

A closer view. They still need to be finish sanded with 500 grit. I'll leave them
to patina naturally.

I have no photo updates, but thought I'd share a funny story. For kicks and giggles, I clamped NINA MARIE's ship's bell to the tabernacle and ran a long lanyard to the mooring bitts so I can ring the bell now and again. Silly, but that is merely the prelude to today's story. It was a nice sunny day; warm and breezy. I opened every door and window in the shop, and set to taping off the boot top for paint. I was just finishing the stemhead, when my dog came charging into the shop, and that durn bell topside went to clanging like there was no tomorrow! Scrambling out from under the boat, I tripped over the dog and barely caught sight of the hind-end of an absolutely terrified squirrel as he leaped from the bow, out the door and across the street, miraculously being missed by two cars passing opposite directions the moment he crossed. He must have jumped onto the boat to get away from the dog, and landed right on that bell's lanyard! When I looked back to the deck, I saw that poor little rodent had left me a gift. That's right, you guessed it! Contrary to definition, the NINA MARIE has a poop-deck forward. I am humored now as I write this (though I nearly had a coronary at the time) and can't help but wonder if our little squirrel has stopped running yet.

Well Gentlemen, the broken back is healing quite well. Thank you all so much for the support and best wishes. I have really missed working in the shop. I've been back at it for a full week now, so I will post new photo's soon. I have set a new launch goal for July 4th.

How did you get a broken back?? Was it the Squirrel incident??
Good to see you back in action. I've always liked that design.

No, I'm afraid I can't blame the squirrel. I fell while repairing storm damage to the roof. It would appear I am no longer as spry as I once was; limber either, come to think of it!
