View Full Version : British (?) Oil Lamp Parts

I have some oil lamps which need collars, burners, and chimneys. Chimneys are relatively easy to find. The collars and burners have specific sizes and types of threaded parts.
They are probably British made about 1960 and apparently no longer in production. No brand name on them, anywhere. I can measure the parts with a caliper and get generic parts, etc. But it'd be good to have a recommendation. What oil lamp expert should I contact? There are a zillion sources of lamp parts, mostly Asian made, which are unlikely to have the same threads and other specs as these British made lamps.
That 'collar' into which the burner (on floor next to it) screws, has stripped threads. These collars screw on or press on.....not part of the 'font' (fuel tank). We need a couple of new collars and a spare burner or two.

They look like Davey & Co items.
Try Classic Marine.
Thanks. I see that Davey has a similar lamp as the straight-sided ones, in their catalog. Not quite the same but maybe the shape has evolved over time. The parts may still be the same size.
I was told that they might be 'Nauticalia' brand, but they seem to now be just a store and don't sell parts. I'll try Davey.

I have a couple but they are dutch made....and look exactly like those. Maybe they have more than one manufacturer.

Okay. I'll 'go Dutch' if the Davey lead dead-ends. Thanks.
I didn't see them on the Den Haan website, but again maybe the design has changed some but the parts are the same.

Generally speaking, there wasn't that much variation in the burner assemblies. I'd be surprised if you aren't able to scare up something that fits. Sadly, there was once a good range of very high quality cabin lamps out there, but now, most of what's available is pretty junky. You will usually find the manufacturer's identification on the little ridged edge wheels that you turn to adjust the wick. There were always more manufacturers of the lamps than there were manufacturers of the burner assemblies, so you'll find often that the burner from one brand lamp is interchangeable with a burner of another brand lamp.
If all else fails, contact Nowell's in San Rafael, California. They are the "go to" place for lighting restoration. While they primarily do things like restore Tiffany lamps and stuff like that, they were until very recently located on the Sausalito waterfront and handle a lot of marine lamps.

Let me second Bob C's recommendation to contact Nowell's here in San Rafael. They spent 15 mins rummaging in a couple of old boxes of parts to find me an English burner that fit my old cargo lamp. Good guys/good prices.

Thanks all.
I have contacted Davey & Co (via their US west coast distributor (http://www.woodenboat.org/)) and Nowell's. If they fail I'll try these other companies. I'll report back.
