Thought you guys might appreciate this very handsome wooden runabout from the Italian Riviera. This would be a cool project to build. I wonder where a guy could find plans for this baby?

I'm not sure, but I guess it's a gozzo (http://www.yachtonline.it/classic-en/piccola-s-rita-is-back) (or something similar like a leuco), modified by adding a cabin and maybe that piece of wood (mmd names it "saddle-horn") at the top of the extended stem; maybe the cabin comes from another boat, who knows. All in all, a monster - imo.

You maybe right....although: the fenders are real and full scale!...as is the start of "blackening" of the varnished bits near the stem-post!

The rest of the picture is....confusing!

That extended stem thingy might be a support for the mast, which looks like it might be hinged to rotate forward...if you needed to get under a VERY low bridge.

I should have mentioned that we found this photo on Scott Schuman's Sartorialist blog, in a tiny photoessay about Portofino, Italy.

Floatingkiwi may be correct about the model superimposition - it almost looks that way to me too, but knowing where the shot came from, I'd be surprised. Nonetheless, Schuman is a professional photographer, so I've no doubt the shot has been enhanced with photoshop, to improve the lighting, etc. If it is a model, it's a pretty good one.

I'd still like to find more information about the design and age of this 'model' of boat (and I wonder what the heck that extended stem post thing is all about).

And yes kiwi, I am having fun. :)

So, it is a bastardized Gozzo. :rolleyes: Interesting - I thought the cabin details looked somewhat crude (especially around the windows) in relation to the lines of the hull.

So it's a traditional hullform that has been modified by the addition of a cabin?

Being ignorant of this particular lovely species of boat means that I have no idea how large a crime against orthodoxy has been committed here. It also leaves me free of pre-conceived notions or prejudices regarding this boat.

Oh wait... maybe these beautiful boats are legally regarded as a historical, cultural artifact - and it's against the law for an owner to modify one to suit his own needs?

All I can say is - if it is a bastardization - it is a quite nice one.

That's very common on small med fishing boats. In "Provence" it's called a "Capian".
