That is meaningless to me. It could be unidirectional or balanced weave. It could be volan or silane treated.

kayakn,

Did the listing indicate whether the cloth was intended for use with polyester resin or for epoxy resin? Sometimes the cloth is treated with a coating called "sizing" which helps the resin to "wet" the cloth. This makes for easier, better wetting out of the cloth by the resin when it is applied to a surface. Cloth is available with sizing that works for both resins.

There are different types of weave, also. I hit Google with "type 1 class 3 fiberglass" and did not come up with much to help, but you might try some of that yourself.

i asked him about it and he told me he sold some of it to someone to use on the decks of their boat. i guess i could go look at it and see if it looks ok. would there be any reason i could not use it?

Thanks

I would ask him for a 3 square foot sample and test it my self.

Blake, looking won't tell you much. SSOR's notion is what I'd do.

Yep, plenty of them - wrong sizing, contamination from excess humidity during storage or other forms of contamination, etc., etc. If this guy can't tell you what exactly it is and where it came from, you probably don't want it - and remember. he's the seller - he's trying to unload a boatload of this stuff and getting rid of it is far more important to him than your projects are. By the time you buy the resin to saturate it and the wood to cover with it, the actual cost of the cloth is only a portion of the cost of the project - and you may not want to risk the whole investment of both time and money on bargain mystery cloth.

 Type 1 Class 3 don't mean anything to me. Weights, weaves, and finishes have been my shopping criteria.

Your seller sounds clueless about what he's offering. Probably just a "picker" who found some stuff to make a few bucks off of.

If you don't know which glass fabric you need, looking won't tell you anything useful unless the rolls have mill tags giving specific information you can look up.

You might consult with a reputable fiberglass supplier about what the recommended fabric is for your application. Then you'll have the knowledge to be an informed flea market shopper.
