A public service announcement:

If you use the "Insert link" icon, paste the link in the box, then click "OK", your link will appear in your text with part of it highlighted in blue. If you then press delete, the highlighted part of the link will disappear, and you can replace the meaningless string of characters with a title that reflects the content, like this: Charlie bit my finger (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OBlgSz8sSM)

This will make your post more informative, and you will appear to be both courteous and hip.

Charlie sure is a funny little dude!

Don't have to press delete - just type in "Charlie bit my finger".

Right you are. But are we going to now have a rash of links titled "Charlie bit my finger"? That wouldn't be helpful.

Could be misleading, even.

Steve, keep trying. You could even do it for your signature: Lewisboats (http://www.angelfire.com/ego/lewisboatworks/)

Less clutter.

Bruce, that's a clever way to get more hits for your favorite song.

Instead of pasting the link, you highlight the text you want to the link to become.

Click copy on the link you want. Then highlight the text you want to become the link in your post. Then click the little globe-and-sunglasses looking icon at the top of the post editor. A box will appear in which you paste the link. The text you highlighted will become the link.

Seems my HTML is OFF...and I can't find a way of changing it. I already tried the User CP.

Charlie sure is a funny little dude!

But how do I do it if I don't want to appear to be courteous or hip?

Great little video but it misses highlighting the text first before clicking the button...a critical step me thinks.

Much easier to

1. select the words you want the link to point to
2. click on the link button
3. insert link
4. hit return or enter.

That Eelay character is hilarious. Handsome and talented, too. Thanks for pointing him out, Bruce. And Fred.

agreed...clean and simple instructions...something sorely needed by senile workaholics like me.

But if you type "Here's a step by step example" as a part of your post then do the selecting thing and insert link...it seems more natural and easier to understand that you are using a part of what you already wrote and making it active.

Also...I am not getting the [url][url] bracketed info...just a standard link so I can't do it your way anyhoo. Must be the browser (firefox) or the fact that my html is OFF. How the heck do I get it turned on? User CP doesn't do it.

Doh! I believe you're right!
