My boat 37' cedar over oak frames Chesapeake Baybuilt "Picnic" seems to have a fungus among us!
I can't imagine that this is good. Some of the structural items in the bilge seem to be supporting a sort of fungus. Mainly this is at the chines and it is limited to only one area of the boat which is a damp area. The affected area of wood does not seem to be rotting (yet). The fungus like stuff looks a bit like that which might be on the north side of a tree in the woods.
I want to kill this stuff. Any ideas?

Otherwise the boat is in good shape and leaks only an appropriate small amount.

scrap it off and spray with 50%water and 50%bleach let dry then spray with an anti fugal spray.look in the paint dept of your hardware store for some.

Bill-
We've seen that fungus from time to time on boats in for repair. It never seems to soften the wood. Bleach it as JLM suggests.

Scrape it off and save it - it probably sells in France for $1200/lb. under some exotic name ;)

Well, maybe I can go into the exotic fungus business!
I will try the scrape and bleach approach. Of course, due to the fact that it is under the deck I will have to stand on my head and have six foot arms to reach it in order to properly scrape it. I'll try bleach and a long handled brush on that which is out of reach.

Thanks all.
