Ok, I want to make 2 kid sized kayak / bateau boats. Kids are currently 9 & 7.

I want to do this project for very few $$ and very fast.

If I limit the length to what I can get out of an 8' sheet of ply will the boat be too short or will it work ok ?

I'm thinking a little rocker at the bottom with a 1x1 "keel" to help the boat paddle straight.

Construction adhesive & nails for all fastening.

Cover with interior latex paint that I have on my shelf.

If the boats last 3 years then I'll consider that a win.

I don't have plans but I can draw something up pretty easily that should work well enough.

Any thoughts ?

I made something like that for my nephew who was 50lbs at the time,,don't make the bottom too narrow.

Glen-L has a stitch and glue kidyak, weight approx 20 lbs. Can be made from one sheet of 1/8" or 1/4" ply, length 9' so a couple butt joints would be required. If you were going to do her in 1/8 inch I would suggest you would definitly have to glass her which would probably triple the cost.

Consider using Funnoodles (3" diameter 5' long colorful foam pieces that are fun in the pool) for gunnels/flotation.
