has anyone used any of the epoxy offered by a company in san diego? I normally use west epoxy. not the cheapest I know. I recently stumbled onto this company on ebay just messing around. called areo marine . So I orded some, 3 gallons @ 169.00 with shipping across the country. I have been messing around with differant tests, boiling, checking saturation and so on. a scientist I am not. It seems ok to me. any one have any experience good or bad.just checking before I use on my boat project. would appreciate any advise. thanks tom
For about $100 more, you could have ordered 3 gallons of System Three standard resin (one gallon of hardener, two gallons of resin) without any testing and had peace of mind over the long haul. System Three has proven performance in varying temps and humidity.... and thousands of folks on this forum have used it successfully. I'm betting RAKA epoxy costs a little less than System Three, and many users on this forum highly recommend it. FYI... System Three has a price break at 15 gallons...where you pay $895 for 15 gallons of resin/epoxy/hardener and the cost with shipping comes to about $65/gallon.
Most likely, if you are using the epoxy you have purchased... and it cures properly... and tears out wood fibers with test strips of fiberglass cloth epoxied to ply stock... then you will be ok... but sometimes it just does not make sense to try to cut corners in materials.
Good luck,

thanks for the reply rod. Like i was trying to say It wasn't about being cheap. I'm all for for saving a couple of bucks but not at the expense of my project. I have tried that peel test and one it was not easy to peel off and quite a bit of wood came off. once again thanks for your 2 cents. tom
Hey Tom,
