Does anyone know anything about this event? Probably says it all, the lone photo is the crab feed, not a wooden boat!

It's small; but well done. You may be surprised.

It's a small show, indeed. It's also hugely fun. Amazing variety of small, wooden boats they pack in for that weekend. I've been going - with or without a boat to display - for years. From the first time I showed up, they were charming, welcoming, helpful, and inclusive.

Our boating group - The Western Oregon Messabout Society - always has a big showing there, and there are always lots of other wooden boat nuts as well. This is where we go to launch whatever boat we've completed over the winter. There is a dedication ceremony with a piper in full kit and the Boat Princess (rumored to be descended from one of King Neptunes few encounters with a human) to sprinkle your boat with fairy dust and champagne as she waves her magic wand and utters incantations guaranteed to give your boat the best luck possible. You would not lack for people to talk boats with, or boats to admire and discuss.

The crab feed is a delicious bargain, put on by volunteers.

We went a couple years ago and tagged along with the fun. The Coots are a most accepting, non-exclusive group, and interested in just about any aspect of small wooden boating. They are a lot of fun to be around. Depoe Bay is a killer location, with scenery to die for.

I have a conflict in Canada that weekend or I'd be there with my speckled beauty for an afternoon at least.

I am planning to attend the Depoe Bay event this year and bring my new Goat Island Skiff.
