I want to bring you attention to a traditional Danish fishing boat being built in Glocester, MA. Matt Billey is a professional boatbuilder who is building Jette, a copy of a herring fishery boat named Haabek from Bornholm, in his spare time and as circumstances permit. Matt contacted me after seeing my Sardine wood stove review in WB 200 and visiting my Blog.
I did a post on his efforts here (http://www.sjogin.com/?p=694) after seeing what a close match she was to Sjogin. After seeing Matt's boat on Hove to off Swan Point (http://www.sjogin.com/?p=694), the always interesting Thomas Armstrong of the 70.8% Blog contacted Matt and did a post as well. Here's the link (http://70point8percent.blogspot.com/2010/01/matt-billey-builds-to-boat-design.html#links).
And here are a few pics of Matt's work:

A close cousin indeed.

Classic Scandinavian construction. Most of the fastening is done with trunnels.

Beautiful curves.

Looks like there's room for a small wood stove.
Matt was inspired by a book of traditional Danish designs by Christian Nielsen called simply Wooden Boat Designs. After seeing the book in Thomas Armstrong's post I got a copy of the book in my continuing search for Sjogin's provenance. Lot's of cousins but still no exact match.
Let's hope Matt joins us here and keeps us posted as to his progress.
