Eighteen people have been killed in a head-on collision between two passenger trains in Belgium, although the death toll could rise.
Railway officials said the trains collided during the morning rush hour at Halle, south-west of Brussels. One reportedly missed a stop signal.

It sounds unreal. I'm taking it for granted that there is a fairly advanced train protection system on that line, especially since the line is also used by the Eurostar trains. Could it possibly have failed?

I am speechless. You take so much for granted when you board a train that this kind of thing just really never enters your mind. 18 people died? I heard this on the radio and was just in shock.

I have been in the train station in Antwerp. Beautiful building. Shocking.
