[QUOTE]Much as it did for hair styling products and fake tans, spray-on technology now stands to revolutionize everything from locomotives to winemaking to textile design, thanks to a versatile new spray known as "liquid glass." Applied to nearly any surface, an invisible non-toxic layer of silicon just one millionth of a millimeter thick can protect underlying matter from water, bacteria, dirt and even UV radiation./QUOTE]

so if it works on clothing it should work on wood.
so perhaps varnish would last a long time

I agree - looks very cool. Short discussion here, also:

If, as the information suggests, this is simply a SiO2 coating it will have little to no ability to stop transmission of UV rays. It will not necessarily degrade itself but whataver is under it will not be protected. Quartz (SiO2) lenses are used in ultraviolet photography because of its superior transmission compared to other glasses. I use quartz cuvettes (sample cells) it when doing uv-visible spectroscopy for the same reason.

perhaps something will have to be incorporated into the coating to absorb or reflect UV rays.

How would this affect future recoating?
