View Full Version : No BILGE posting day...

I think we should all leave. Nobody post in The Bilge for a month. Or a week. Or a day. One lousy day. Bet you can't do it.

Since Jim D suggested this... I'll get the ball rolling. I say Monday, Feb. 8 will henceforth be known as NO-BILGE POST DAY.

I'll leave it up to the rest of you serious Bilge Rats to decide if the moratorium is in Eastern Standard time since that's what the server posts, or UTC time or Whatever your personal local time is.

Betcha y'all can't stay away!:D

I support the effort but if TD comes back that day it won't be good.

I don't think we should cease just yet. The Bilge is about to hit a bit of a milestone of one million. (Do you old timers know if its already been around once?)

Community organizers are a bit like gladiators in that if not battling the enemies of the people we turn in idleness on each other. One slack winter evening when a bunch of us were snapping and snarling at each other at a local establishment, the SO of one, a lovely guidance counselor sort, suggested we try a little group dynamic exercise.

Easy he said. Just turn to the person on your left and say something nice.

We each looked left. Had a moment of silence, then turned back to the origonator of this bright idea with a unanamous, "F&#K YOU!"

I'd not be quite so blunt here, but if I'm moved to write about something next week, no arbitrary fluff thought will stop me.

[That latter clause can be taken so many ways . . .]

I'm in. But Greenwich time might be better since we have members from around the globe. Or each to our own local time. That way The Bilge wouldn't be free of us for any given 24 hour period but each of us would still be free of it for 24 hours.

These days I frequently go for days without posting down here, but this thread: http://www.woodenboat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=109072 is a reminder to me of why the bilge is deeply valuable at times.

Whatever anyone chooses to do on this "no bilge day," I hope threads like that one will not get ignored.

Do you old timers know if its already been around once? No, it hasn't. It's newer than the rest of the forum. There used to be just Misc., then Misc. Non-Boat-Related, and then they changed the name to The Bilge since that was what people were already calling it. It was a big deal when Misc. NBR passed Building/Repair in number of posts.

Sure, no postings next Monday.

I agree. But you don't have to ignore it. Just not post to it. Prayers and wishes can be offered silently. And without meaning to diminish the power of prayer, I doubt anyone's life or death crisis or circumstances depend on what gets done or not done on one day in The Bilge.

What is this? It sounds like a proposal by Wimps who aren't up to playing here to convince the rest of us not to play either.

Something tells me that this idea is going to be about as successful as the war on drugs, trickle-down economics, the war on poverty, Hillary-care, and abstinence-only sex education. :)

Let's not forget Obama-Care. :D
