Found this on USENET in rec.boats.building.

I am learning a new programming language and wrote my first Windows
application, an offsets conversion tool, which I used to convert my
newly acquired Tahitiana 32 plans.

It converts table of offsets numbers like 7-4-2+ (7 feet, 4 inches,
2/8, 1/16) to both metric and inches format.

I am posting it on my web site, for free. Consider it as freeware.
This is just a learning exercise for me, but I thought others might
have some use for it...

NOTE: the ***I***spoken of in the above is not yours truly.

NOTE: I have checked the proggy with Norton AV, Trojan Remover and Ad-Aware myself.

Another option which I've been playing with is excel.
I've included a scaling function to alter length, beam or depth.
I'm inputting a set of offsets of the whitehall per Chapelle for a trial.
An additional great benefit if one has the full blown version of excel is the capability of creating a plot of the curves with the actual converted data.
When I finish inputting the data I intend to compare the curves from excel with curves from the same data plotted out from autocad.

mmmmm just a hint here Ken if this is yours... perhaps if you allow the web page to load and give a bit of detail of what people are downloading what its capabilities are etc... and the ability for the person to click to actually request the download... the auto download would be appreciated a bit more?

Just clicking on the like by dave to your site and getting an auto download and nothing else eerrr worrys some

Just a suggestion is all!!! ;)

Okay now Ive had a look... cool!!... well done!

Shane, did you really THINK that I would post something like that without checking it out with Norton AV, Trojan Remover and Ad-Aware first?????

Thanks Dave

The program works nicely. I have made something similar in Excel but your prog is better.

Thank you

Hans

Cool. Like Ken, I've used excel for stuff like this. I wrote a quick spreadsheet that was trememdously helpful in doing the lining-off for the plank lands of my current glued-lapstrake project.

I also found it a lot easier to work in millimeters when doing the lining off, even though I originally did the lines in feet/inches. Base-10 is much easier to deal with when all you care about is percentages!

I use all decimal foot dimensions, This started due to doing the boat the traditional way making a half hull model which is 1/12 scale. I measured the model with dial verniers, so all my measurements on the model are decimal inch. I kept the same dimensions when I made my autocad file and the various Excell files.
I run the plots for the full size boat with a 12 to 1 scale factor.
For actual work on the boat I use a decimal foot tape measure.
With this method I am always use the common dimensions with no conversions to worry about.
