Hello All,

I am building a cedar on oak, plank on frame lobster boat designed by Royal Lowell. You can see a slide show of its building and follow its progress at my web site www.mainetraditionalboat.com (http://www.mainetraditionalboat.com). Is anyone else building this boat?

My pleasure. I will try to keep the Currents page of my site updated so folks can watch it being built. Thanks.

Your boat has a very sharp turn at the bilge! How did the framing go?

I ripped the aft most half dozen or so frames to about four inches from their heels to make bending at the hardest turn or the bilge easier, and hopefully to prevent frame fractures here in the future, as I have seen on older boats. This worked very well. The next day I put adhesive between the halves. I don't believe I broke more than one or two out of the whole batch, however a few had some rippling up of the inner most layer, almost like a superficial delamination. As I usually find to be the case, the twisting was harder than the bending.
