That is indeed a lovely video! He's even got that boat painted in the correct colors.

He nearly dips the lee rail at 9:44 :D

It looked awful darn easy to ship water

Nevertheless, my opinion of open, unballasted sailboats remains unchanged.

As I said the guy sailing her really knew how to sail, the mainsheet system and the push pull tiller looked clunky. I think I'd have stepped the mizzen on a bridge and had a tiller. He was oversheeting more than the average sailor would, don't know what I would do about that, but I hated the way he had to make love to the mainsheet every time he tacked. I'm aware that he was working at maintaining fore and aft trim and the addition of a 200 lb significant other would have changed everything.

I'm looking forward to meeting Mr Oughtred at the show. I hope he accepts the challenge of building a Footy.

Are you coming East for the show Jim?

Who, me? Nope, sorry. Going west to Hawaii in a few weeks, though. Unfortunately by air. That takes care of the travel budget for a while.

As I said the guy sailing her really knew how to sail. . . So what do you see that really lets you know the guy is a skilled sailor?
There is that stack of plywood in your shop.Eventually the building bug is gonna bite Steven again, Ostkusts or no.

Why, thank you. I shall reflect on your kind words while sun tanning at Waikiki.

I can't say, just the way he anticipates every motion of the boat. It's artistic to be compared to a piano concerto or ballet. His weight is always in the right place, the sails are always trimmed just right, he's always looking where he's going.

All the Tassies I've met or heard about (EF) have been exceptional sailors, I'd bet this guy has sailed sailboards to Maxis and done well.

How about an exact scale model Caledonia Yawl Footy? :D

Or maybe an Eun Mara Footy? ;)

Now that is a boat I wouldn't mind owning.

Well, this thread got me thinking. With Iain Oughtred coming to the WoodenBoat Show this year maybe I should build an Eun Mara Footy. Maybe Iain could sail it in the Footy Regatta at the Show.

So after dinner tonight I fired up the ol' copier and scaled down the body plan and whipped up some molds:

From the bow:

From the stern:

When you've built the boat in your head as many times as I have it comes pretty easy. ;)

She's lovely but open boats make me nervous ,I alway wonder about being caught out in an unexpected change .

Were she mine I think coamings and a restricted cockpit , lots of built in floatation and perhaps some kind of fabric spray skirt .I sound worried don't I ?:D We had a huge squall through here yesterday afternoon ,somewhat on my mind .

Denman can sail can't he ...and I really love the Channel waters .

She's a great boat, no question. Nice video, too.
But, really, She's sailing in light air, no real challenges there. Nice that she can jibe with no drama. Nice to be able to come about without any histrionics, too. What I don't get is why there is any dissension amongst the ranks one way or the other. We sail like that all the time. It's what we call a nice afternoon sail.
