Any of you guys and gals seen any cruising scow sloops or schooners out there? Not the race type boats but something with a dog house and big enough for some minimum accomodations.

See Pete Culler's book, 'Skiffs and Schooners', and Chapelle's 'American Small Sailing Craft'.

Thanks, I've asked the library to find that book for me. If you can think of anything else, please let me know.

Harry V. Sucher designed a 30' scow schooner. You can find the plans in his book "Simplified Boatbuilding-The Flat Bottom Boat" or buy them from the Smithsonian. Phil Bolger also designed a scow schooner which is in his "Boats With An Open Mind". The Smithsonian has quite a few scows listed in the plans catalog. Do a search of the forum, there have been a few posts about scows in the past.

I believe Sam Devlin has a scow schooner design of about 30-40 feet

A scow schooner used to be moored here in Eagle Harbor on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Don't know where it is now. It looked like the boat Bill Garden has in his first book of designs.
It is in many ways a 30' LOD version of the classic west coast scow schooner. These boats were used up until the 1950s to transport hay, livestock and other low value cargo here on the west coast. The boat had a good size cabin. I am sure adequate accommodations for a week could be worked into it. Check out Bill Gardens book.

The William Garden scow "Tillicum" is 40'x17' with a 2' draft. It's probably bigger than you want but look it up in Garden's "Yacht Designs".This is a REAL scow, 3" planking, massive frames and beams and all that deck space with 10' transoms and a 17' beam.

Fritz, I tried to e-mail you but it wouldn't go through. I double checked the address but I kept getting word that you couldn't be found. Is there an alternative address???
