That's a great item. Someone just bid on it 2 minutes ago, exactly when I did. Was it one of us? If so, I'll lay off. If not, here's my plan: The copyright on it is long expired, so the article itself is public domain. I'll bid on it to preserve the original and if I win, I'll make high-res copies available to anyone here who wants it.

Nice but, don't try to actually do it this way. Chapelle also makes it so confusing that Paul Luke and I couldn't figure it out together one day. I slept on it and was able to get it right the next day. It's dead simple when you do it directly but traditional loftsmen used round about methods like this one that muddy the waters.

You're right of course, Roger. I like it more as artifact than anything practical.

I don't care if the info's no good. I want that on my wall and will bid it sky high if need be, so just you back off, Norm.:D

I'm kind of glad to hear you say that, Roger! :D I tried to loft the transom of Chapelle's lines for the Muscongus Bay sloop using his methods and couldn't get my mind around it. I never had confidence in the outcome (particularly at the plank lands) so left some wiggle room on the transom frame and dubbed off by eye while lining off.

I found Alan Viatsas (spelling approxomate, but "Lofting" is in the WoodenBoat store usually) understandable and easy enough. I also could not figure out Chapelle's approach.
I like the way the Chesapeake guys do the pungey's - put a big stump in place and carve away anything that does not look like a transom.
