Fascinating insight into an isolated part of Australia and the impact man has on the ecology of remote environments.

It's an island south of South Australia, isolated for thousands of years, with a delicate infrastructure like most of Australia, that has been interfered with by the arrival of Europeans.

As Peter commented, never been there, but definitely on the list.

I couldn't load that link either, it stopped at 68%.

KI has a major overpopulation of drop bears doesn't it?

I've altered the link.

It should work now.

Great spot, spent a little bit of time there when a mate from Alice moved there and set up a tour company. Great wildlife, stunning ocean frontages and beaches. Interestingly I remember that the bees there are disease free and they go to a lot of trouble to keep them that way. Also something about the mainland Blackfella's considering it a no go zone - not sure if it's to do with bad spirits or what, I can't remember the full story (or at least no one seemed t klnow the full story) - Purri? You about? Do you know anything about KI and local stories?

There is some video of the southern ocean in full fury in winter.

Absolutely stunning.

The image has nothing to do with Kangaroo Island.

I just like it.

Inhabited until abt 1500 years back. Apparently there was some epidemic etc that wiped the locals out and the mainlanders didn't continue to visit. There are still transplanted Palawa (TAS) mob descendants from kidnapped women and men for the Yankee whaling industry until abt 1850. There is a generic "crossover" music genre from black and white yankee influences, though not well documented as the "locals" are somewhat gun shy of blowin hackerdemics and their ilk pursuing their respective agendas.
