August soon approaches and the one daughter is turning 12. So instead of more games she can sit on her butt with, I was thinking of building her a hope chest. She has her ragged old security blanket that would probably be the first thing to go into it. Anyone here built one? I am kicking around the idea of building a wood steamer out of PVC pipe and steaming some wood to bend it to make a nice oval, much like boat building. Although, this may go beyond my current skill set. Then I was thinking of doing some carvings in the lid with the hybrid. I do not know how well a carving would work if I were to bend the pieces.

Give me some ideas. I am thinking Cherry or maple, and then lined with aromatic cedar.

With the CNC machine I was thinking something like this in the lid.

I've built a couple, sized right enough to serve as a coffee table, nic-nac table, or even a window seat. Girls are always filling up anything with a horizontal surface with gizmos of all kinds. A round top chest doesn't let her do that.

Maple would seem to fit in with anything else she buys herself down the road.

The top would be flat, it is the sides I am thinking of bending.
