For the centennial jubilee of the Oslo-Bergen RR, Norwegian Television filmed the seven hour journey in its entirety. The program was originally aired on Nov 27, on the day 100 years after the opening.

Now, the entire film has been made available for public download in full HD format under a Creative Commons licence . While the priginal program contained interviews, music and side views, all that has been stripped off in the download (copyright restrictions on the additional material had a lot to do with that). It contains, unabridged, the journey from the exclusive view of the engineer, from the start at the Bergen RR Station to the arrival at Oslo Central.

It is strangely pleasing to watch. There is no soundtrack but the ambient sound of the train, and the camera stays fixed straight ahead. Yet one is drawn into a trance as the ever changing landscape comes rushing towards you and you want to see what is around the next bend.

There is a 10 minute preview at youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ql2qXpNVTjw&feature=player_embedded#

The film may be downloaded in its entirety from this site: http://nrkbeta.no/2009/12/18/bergensbanen-eng/

Note: The download is HUGE, 22GB!
