I'm sure I'd have a heart attack if I attempted one, but there were a number here who did it in the name of charity. Good for them!

Of course if I were in Oz.... :D

Done around here you'd have to beware of shrinking gronicles...

My kid went last night.
In Georgian Bay.
The water is still liquid,so it can't be that cold.

I went in Lake Washington at noon today along with a bunch of people. A bit brisk 46 degrees F/7 degrees C water temperature. It's become a tradition. My 13 year was not interested until a friend of hers decided to go. She's already talking about next year.

Swimming WAS glorious in OZ, practiced rolling the freebie plastic kayak. I need more practice!

I might be persuaded to be adventurous and place a toe in the cold water but that would be the only extremity put forth to suffer..

Once while ice fishing a foolish fellow fisherman walked to the entrance of the stream feeding the lake where the ice was not sufficiently frozen.

Down he went yet made his escape, Doggy paddling and screaming

I rushed him to my truck where i always had an extra set of clothes and cranked the heater on full force.

He recovered but the issue would have been in doubt if i had not been fully prepared.

I once went for a dip through the ice at a ski resort to win a bet, a bottle of 1950's Chateau Lafitte. In retrospect worth it, that's the only taste of that I'll ever get!

It isn't the water that is so bad it is the feet freezing to feeling like pegs. Wicked painful.

I swam in the Arctic Ocean, off an actual iceberg (I don't count the several times I've fallen through the ice, this was deliberate).

Yes, it was freakin' cold. No, I'm never doing it again. And yes, everything you've heard or speculated about shrinkage is true - it took me hours to find 'em!
