A bit bloody early mate.... its only just gone 7pm.

I'm off to the midnight fireworks with a 25yo Austrian chicky babe, who was here as an exchange student 9 years ago and missed the Sydney Harbour fireworks.

Yes, I'm being chaperoned.

So, to our friends in NZ- How's 2010 shaping up so far? Anything we should watch out for when we get there?

Happy New Year everyone. So far 2010 appears to have reasonably clear skies, and isn't too cold. No doubt you guys will have it differently.
Happy boating for 2010.

Happy New Year!

May the year bring those with boats much safety and pleasure, may it bring those who are building boats the guidance and motivation required to finish, and may it bring those without boats a winning lottery ticket (it doesn’t have to be the jackpot) or some balls to start building one!!:D (that last one was for me)

It's definitely New Year... and I've got the photos to prove it. Here's a few snaps from the $5 million fireworks show on Sydney Harbour tonight. I prefer watching them from the water, but hey, I didn't even decide to go until a few hours before they were on.

We were 50 metres from the NE pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge... opposite the Opera House. Some of the fireworks were directly above us. The top of the Harbour Bridge is about 480' above the water.

The view further up the Harbour. As well as firing them from the Bridge, they use four barges in the Harbour (2 each side of the Bridge) and the tops of a lot of the city buildings too.

I didn't get a lot of the colour bursts... as I was sitting in the dark and hadn't set the camera up to push the "film" - so it was happier on the brighter stuff. Just some happy snaps.

... and this one to show where we were in relation to the Opera House.... and because I like it.

.... and the Austrian chicky babe said she'll come half way around the world again just to see the fireworks another year.

... and here's why it is better to be on the water, instead of among the throng of 1.5 million people lining the foreshores of the Harbour.

Last time I went in to the fireworks, other than last night, was for the Olympics closing ceremony, and we had Grantala moored where these boats are. This is of the same Bridge that I was under last night. Photo from the Australian newspaper.

1.1.10 and all is well so far. It's 10.32am and I've just crawled out of bed, it's a warm humid overcast day with bouts of sunshine. Just saw a Wallaby in the backyard with a Joey in the pouch.
Great day so far! :D

The wife and I will be leaving in a moment to have a grilled shrimp salad with no dressing and water with lemon, and then we will listen to Madeira Shakur (I am sure that's spelled incorrectly. She has sung backup for Jimmy Buffett for a long time and does her own thing when he is at rest). Anyway, if I had my druthers I'd watch the Virginia Tech/Tennessee game and head off to bed, but it's good to do things with my wife and she wanted this.

Be careful everyone. Happy New Year!

Hippy Nude Year, Everyone!

Hippy noo yar to you Chuck! Here's our gai larb recipe:

Cook chicken mince in lime juice (no oil) and drain off the excess juice.
Toast rice in a dry pan and crush in a mortar and pestle.
Chop up chilli, red onion, coriander, mint.
Add in fresh lime juice, fish sauce and a few teaspoons of the toasted & ground rice and combine with the chopped chilli, etc.

Happy new gai larb!! :)
