Hello All,

Last year I've bought a boat which, as I was told, is a Farne Islander.
Is was build by the former owner, but without any drawing by Ian Oughtred. He copied drawings from a book, enlarged them to scale and build the boat from those "selfmade" plans.

I found out the former owner a good carpenter but he wasn't a boating man. My problem is he didn't build the doghouse and decks to good. The same goes for the interior of the boat.

I hoop someone can help me find the drawings foto which I need to rebuild this beautyful boat.

Probably the easy thing to do is to write to Iain Oughtred and purchase the building plans. That way you'll know what should have been done.

I'm not sure if you know that the boat in the picture at the top of the page is a Farne Islander. :) It was built by Norm Messinger, a WBForum member who unfortunately has "passed over the bar". I was lucky enough to be a guest aboard her once, she is a fine boat.

I also think your best plan would be to write to Iain.

Thanks for the information. The plan's for a Farne Islander don't seem to be for sale throught any webshop. I'll contact Ian Oughtred for the plan.

Thanks, but the compliment ought to be made to Iain Oughtred.
I still don't understand why this boat isn't build more....:(
As this is probably the only one in the Netherlands and it han't even been registered officialy.

As I understand it Iain designed this boat as a production boat for a specific boatbuilder. Mcnultys, maybe? The plans were not available to anyone else. Then something went bad and they were made available to the public. Then maybe things were smoothed out with the builder and they weren't available any more. Or something like that.

Well, she's in good hands now. After you've restored her, you really have something special. As you will know, we don't see such a sail plan very often in NL.

Well guess what:
Hi guys, i'm new here and currently new building a Farne Islander in the Netherlands (yes, that's right!) and very close to Amsterdam which is very close to Alphen aan de Rijn. So I would very much like to get in contact with you, EJTZ! For the drawings I have (of course) leave plenty room for imagination. And I'll be very interested in seeing some of the solutions used on your boat.
I'm building her in wood-core and right now fairing my ass off getting the outside of the hull right into shape.I'll try and get some pics in here later(am not 2 good with computers)

In the photo above of the boat tied up to the bank, what are the 4 boats on the opposite bank? They appear to be identical.

Hello Wayne,
You ar quiet right: those boats are the standard class boats which are used by the waterscouts in the Netherlands (Holland).
Each waterscout group owns about 4 to 6 of these boats.
Every waterscout group has it's own colours. Each boat has an name and a sailnumber.
They are build in steel wich watertigh compartment under the fore and aft deck.
They are unsickable, tough and strong. They are called "Lelie vlet".
I learned sailing in that type of boat 30 years ago.
