Finally completed and sent to the CG the application for master's license yesterday.
Last week hired a guy (instead of me) to do the renovation drawings here in Portland. Sould be complete the end of the week. Then to the engineer. Then finally to the city for permitting. This one has been long term and getting to me hard.
This afternoon I shall look to complete the application to the Army Corp and the town for instalation of a gangway and flloat at S. Bristol. Might take a week or so to finish up that sucker.

I have wondered if there would be a market for a news paper that was all good news.
All the papers these days are mostly bad news and sensationalism. That gets old after a while.

There used to be the Grit newspaper, now it's a magazine. Subscribe and see what it's like. It got to seem like elevator music in print, to me.

I'm anchored in Trellis Bay BVI for Old Years Eve (as the locals call it ). Did not "catch" any 50' bareboat catamarangs weaving in and out of the crowded bay.

I'd say not having any particularly bad news is good news.

My computer is up and running and, apparently, all programs functioning properly. It's true I lost all my pictures and stuff, but there are many worse things one can lose.

I basically feel pretty well, got a roof over my head, food in the fridge, and a reliable car in the driveway.

When people ask me how I'm doing, I realize I'm doing better than most.

It's always good news just to make it through another year. It causes me to reflect on the most important things: my lovely wife; two great children who are now adults and educated, productive citizens; three terrific grandsons; and hopefully, I can retire in about 3 more years and concentrate on building boats.

My daugthers grew up every day and are happy, healthy and beautiful. My wifw loves me. My company had a very good year and will have an even better in 2010.
Sailing will be great, too: Two friends have bought a 55sqm skerrycruiser from 1920. The fastest. Won recently the swedish skerrycruiser trophy several times and is a really hot toothpick: 15m long, 2m wide, 4.5 tons. I can't decide if I want to be a shareholder (a lot of respect to this boat), but I will take part as crew in all regattas ;-) And they want to sell their Mälar 30 (a type of 30sqm skerrycruiser) to me. I am not sure if I want to keep my BM-Jolle or to switch to this. But I am a lucky man if this is my greatest problem ;-)

Moved into our new house on the 22nd Dec., our xmas present. Culling furniture at the moment. Boat storage (overhead) organised. Freebe plastic sea kayak, hardly used. Settlement on old holiday house on the 14th. Great birdlife and we spent new years eve watching a storm come up from the sea, tiny bats hunting insects and then rain which is welcome at this time of year. Tonight watched two Boobook owls feeding a flying youngster.

I had started a new thread but seeing how we already have one.

Two eight-year-old Australian boys have been hailed as heroes after rescuing a drowning man from wild seas off Queensland's Gold Coast.
Jake Satherley and Spencer Jeams saw the middle-aged man struggling in dangerous currents, grabbed a surfboard and managed to pull him on.
The pair, members of a junior lifesavers club, said they did not feel scared in the treacherous conditions.
Lifeguards said the rescue was the most remarkable they have ever seen.
Speaking to Australia's ABC News, Northcliffe Life Saving Club president David Shields says he has never seen a rescue like it.
"I've been involved in surf lifesaving for 30 years and I've never seen anyone so young come to the aid of someone so old" he said.
He says they will be rewarded for their act of heroism with "medals and appropriate recognition".
The waters off Queensland were described as dangerous over the weekend, with more than 40 people rescued from the surf and seven swimmers treated in hospital.
