Dave and Margaret, we will be coming with about 8 others, see you Sat. I'll have to be in BoothBay a little early to shovel of the decks of Acacia. How much snow did you have up there?

I may not be able to make it but please keep your fingers crossed for Tracy.

Thanks

Vinny, even for me I'll be headed down there from Portland.

Vinny&Shawn
01-22-2010, 10:18 AM
Well I usually go down to Portland, and have been driving up to BoothBay for the last 20 years. I haven't got the east and west quite yet. Suppose that's why I haven't been out of Maine waters either. But Nor'easter, top'sl, foc'sl,I know them!!

rbgarr
01-22-2010, 10:37 AM
It sounds like there may be as many as twenty of us.

We'll have a toboggan and a long hill (outside) and board games available (inside) for any children who want them. Cold cuts and sandwich makings, too.

The snow remains a bit deep so boots, snow pants, etc. may be desireable for playing outside.

Park in the absent neighbors' driveways if there's no room in the drive when you get here. No parking on the street since the local constabulary frown upon it and quite grimly, too.

Vinny&Shawn
01-22-2010, 06:58 PM
Toboggan, yah? Sounds like a great way to take a swim, doesn't your hill end in the water?
Who's bringing live music?

I didn't get any photos, but others did and I hope they'll post them if possible. When she gets to it, Emily Ferguson will edit and post a link to a short video she took of the gang.

Selects (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=139941&id=749884916&l=3a53f3322f) from my trip down East over the weekend. Basically after the party at Dave's all I wanted to do was sleep off all the driving I did trying to scout these pix.

I dunno how this link works. Facebook offers it as a way to share photos with people outside facebook as well as inside.

Let me know how it works for you. Thanks.

 well as a defence for my mistakes here old boy... as Ive never seen snow other than in photos of the near by to the camera type a distance shot to me could show sand... which I since I havent seen snow as such mistook said snow for said sand... mmm maybe if YOU had taken me where there was snow when I was there????? but no the poor ol thing was so busy tryin to instill in me a taste for the plain bland crustation called "lobster" and hence his neglict of his sons edjoomakashun regarding said snow... now where was I? oh right its all your fault old fella!!! :p

Got out of that one rather neatly huh!! :D

Shane, life is broader than just sunshine on the beach, man.

Thanks, Emily. I didn't know about that shoreline change at Popham beach.

It's really quite a major mess, actually. The undercutting of the shoreline is only about 30 feet from the new bathhouses, and there's simply no scrub left at all. The surf line is still out where it was, however.

The erosion seems to have been proceeding for quite a few years. Every time I visit there, it's back further. I've wondered if there are any plans for dealing with it - though few are successful when dealing with the ocean.....

The beach south of the fort (kinda on the river as well as facing the ocean) has eroded a great deal as well.

Once that thing broke through a few years ago, all bets were off.
That sand didn't go too far away. it'll be laid back in due time.
