Does anyone know of some online articles that show and explain the differences between sail rigs? Maybe they can show photos of the different kinds and explain their advantages and disadvantages. With all the sprits and lugsails and marconi.........etc. it sure gets confusing.

Phil Bolger's 101 Sail Rigs will take you through it. you can get it through the Wooden Boat bookstore or Amazon or wherever. An alternative is a several issue series by Ian Oughtred in Wooden Boat magazine magazine a few years back which discuss the variety of rigs, pro's and cons. Use their index search function for the articles you would like.

If you are interested in traditional rigs, you should own "The Last Days of Mast and Sail" by Morton Nance. I see there are two copies available through Alibris, one for $83 and the other for $124.

Nance discusses square, lug, gaff, and lateen, and historical examples of combinations of these rigs.

You can always ask specific questions on here. I'm sure you'll get a plethora of opinions. I can think of quite a few rigs that I've sailed under.
