My Cheap Pages (sailing canoes, short boats, junk sails, Chinese maritime bibliography, canoe rigs, small boat plans, an early Bolger archive, proas and e-books of sailing canoe, neakbox, garvey, and suchlike topics) now has its own domain:
www.thecheappages.com
The look is much the same and bad links and things are being fixed -- some of those links being 10 years old. My old ISP killed the site (www2.friend.ly.net, or www.friend.ly.net in the URL) without any warning to its customers.
I promise I won't post this in all the forum topic areas <chuckle>.

Thanks for the links to the design of the Chinese junk rig. They're great!
Do you know about the Bamboo Expo near Gainesville, Florida this coming January 19th? Some friends and I are going to it to buy sprouts and finished pieces. I could get the address if you are interested.
It's cheating, but have you tried sheathing bamboo with epoxy and composite materials? I have and it works great. Minimizes maintanence and greatly increases strength (at a cost of course).
Fair winds,

What are you going to do with the bamboo, make spars?

dadadata is using bamboo for a kayak frame.
I use bamboo sheathed in fiberglass/epoxy or carbon fiber/fiberglass/epoxy for booms, boomkin, and a push/pull tiller.

Nice, I recall that mast in progress. How's the sailing performance?

I have nothing to compare it to as I am fairly new to sailing and I'm still waiting for the opportunity to race against a conventionally rigged CY but Xena sails fine for me. One day in Matanzas Bay, St. Augustine, Florida, I had to tack my way against wind and current to get out of the bay with four crew aboard. It took about five tacks but we sailed out of there with no problem. Learned a lot about what she can do that day. Here's a pic from the day before that. Xena's crashing through a boat wake here.
