This afternoon was a bit cool here (50's) so lets have an oyster roast/low country boil. First gas up the oyster steamer and let the oysters steam until open.

Add the shrimp when the potatoes, sausage and corn are almost done.

When the sun goes down sit around the firepit and loosen the belt. Talk about all the rain we've been gettin lately. Maybe go fishing tomorrow.

I would call those prawns. These are shrimps:

Intense flavour, quite different from prawns. Potted brown shrimps - mmmm.......good..... :)

Got a half bushel of Appalachicola oysters last Thursday. Smaller then usual, but nice and briny. Oysters Rockafeller as appetizers for Christmas Eve dinner. Roasted oysters on Saturday, a couple of pie pans to rotate through a Smokey Joe grill, served with drawn butter, Tabasco and lemon wedges. Shucked the rest of them yesterday for a large pot of Oyster Stew, bell pepper and scallions simmered in some butter, white pepper, add the oysters and heat until their edges curl a bit, pour in a quart of whole milk and heat until steaming. There are dozen of the largest left for some fried oysters as a start to some salt cod with roasted tomato/onion sauce, Spanish style with saffron, smoked paprika, thyme.

That's a lot of eatin' out of small cooler full of oysters
