Hi.

I'm not sure this is the right forum (but I suppose it's better than "Repairs"...) but I'll ask anyway.

I'll be spending four weeks in the US next summer. About a week mid-july at a place called Ellison Bay, Wisconsin and three weeks july/august in California, moving from LA to Sacramento.

I am a woodenboat enthusiast, not by far as advanced as those of you in these forums who build your own, but I have an elderly lady that I do what I can to keep in shape, and we've been to a few festivals in Norway together... ;-)

Do any of you know if there is anything happening in these areas at those times? I'd like to get a closer look at what you guys have.

Kind regards

Not in the MidWest or California; but many of us consider this one to be the 'don't miss show of the year'.

WoodenBoat Show (http://www.thewoodenboatshow.com/)

Besides the show itself the venue is a dream for those that love traditional boats and maritime history.

Ellison Bay Wisconsin is in Door County, a very pretty spot. You will be about 70 miles from the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc which is quite worthwhile. The Great Lakes have a unique and interesting maritime history.

About boat shows. If you're willing to travel a bit by car there are two interesting shows on July 17 in Michigan - one in Whitehall Michigan/Muskegon and another in St. Clair Michigan. http://www.acbs.org/eventcalendar.html One of our best forum members who posts under S/V Laura Ellen lives near St. Clair.

I've never been to the Door County Classic and Wooden Boat Show but I hear it's very good...unfortunately it's in early August. http://www.dcmm.org/boatshow.html#boats

There are plenty of smaller boat shows in Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota in July. The Antique and Classic Boat Society listing of shows, linked above, is really only a partial list since many local shows are not listed.

Good luck, and enjoy!

I had hoped to make Mystic's wooden boat show this year, but car needed some work, and you can't spend the same dollar twice.

Actually I'd say this is a fine place to list such events and for members to let others know if they plan on being at them.
